My pre-season sabbatical from April 08

So how does this wedding photographer unwind during the off season…? He stuffs a back-pack full of camera gear and pocket-sized travel guides, then boards a plane to Europe. He also drinks a fifth of Southern Comfort with his girlfriend in Toronto’s Lester B Pearson International Airport before boarding his plane. Mary-Ellen (my girlfriend) and I spent seven days in Paris straying about, eating baguettes and agitating the natives with our American-ness. After succumbing to travel sickness (you know airplanes are just petree dishes with wings) we decided on a change of scenery to rehabilitate our bodies and damaged American egos. For me, this was the coolest part of the trip… Okay, so the Louvre and Eiffel Tower are old, important, yadda yadda, but they can’t compare to a cozy train-car with bunk beds and a ten hour respite on the screechy Spanish rails. We spent the next seven days in Madrid eating hot chocolate with spoons and marveling at architecture and the deteriorating health of their pigeon population. Oh yea, we ate a lot of cheese and spicy meats – tres magnifique!
